Hey guys, I am a relatively inexperienced player (about 6 months of playing) and I was looking to buy a strat as my next guitar. Unfortunately on a bit of a budget so I decided to shop on used markets and stumbled upon this listing locally for an affordable strat. I was wondering if you guys could help inform me of the country model i.e Mex, MIJ, etc and legitimacy. Also what you think I should pay for it. Any advice helps.. thanks!

It's not a Fender. 150 bucks if you like the way it plays.

    .

"Like a box of Good 'n Plenty!" that color scheme is.

It's a Squier neck with a swapped logo, back plate off an Ibanez, could be random loaded pickguard with a bridge pickup swap, random locking tuners, Squier style trem block. Duncan Designed pickups are made in Korea or China.

    Very much a parts caster.

Check out Thomann Harley Benton guitars and Glarry -- youtube and Thomann and Amazon.

To ensure playability of whatever guitar you get, new or used, I'd take it to a good local repair tech for a full setup and evaluation of a fret level. A setup will be $50 and a fret level will be around $100 that includes all the work of the setup (so the extra cost for the level is $50 over the setup cost and about the highest value "mod" you can do on a guitar).

That guitar is so crooked it couldn't lie straight in a coffin.

    Pretty but.......

    Rather buy a genuine Squier.

@alatorr3, good thing you can rely on the forum members here to steer you in the right direction. I'm new to strats and would not have known it wasn't the real deal either. Keep asking, help is here.

I hardly know how to spot a fake. But the “D” in the Fender logo being under the string tree, and the truss rod hole being all wood, was enough to tip me off.
That’s a pretty bad fake if I can spot it.

All USA Fender except Bullets that have nut end truss-rod adjustment have a walnut insert in the entry hole, Mex, MIJ and most Squier's have a black plastic insert except for bullet models, I have also seen ebony inserts used when ebony fretboards are used, usually Custom Shop.

I'd buy another brand new Silvertone SS10 or SS11 Strat made by Samick before I ever bought a Glarry. I'd stay away from those, personally.

Hunt around. You can probably find a pretty decent Player for that money.

$375 is crazy... You'd get a nice Fender for that money! Check out the sellers part of Strat Talk. Right now for example there's a nice Telecaster Contemporary HH for less than $375

Yep there are a lot of fakes out there. Good on you @alatorr3 for asking questions before you bought it. So many guys buy, and then ask, only to be let down.

I never cease to be amazed by the knowledge of members who can spot all of the bad points that have been noted. Well done to all of you who have helped the OP. I wouldn't have a clue, but I would have been put off by a lilac guitar in a case obviously designed for something in black with a skull on it.

As above, the guitar does LOOK nice - but that's not what we want from them. Somebody put a lot of effort into that! Pity they couldn't have done something more worthwhile.
