Yeah.. his music has definitely evolved over the years. I know a lot of people who don't like his newer stuff as well.

Yea man for sure! I get why people don't like him though. He's not everybody's cup of tea!

Well if you don't care about John Mayer's music, don't post on a thread that's centered around it.

John Mayer is a great guitar player and I really enjoy some of his stuff. Of course it is all personal taste but for me quite many of his songs end up being good, but not great. It could change if my tastes change. Absolutely nothing wrong with his stuff. Sometimes I get the same feeling I get when I am listening to Mark Knopfler whom I really enjoy listening to. It's this feeling that he is limiting himself on his guitar playing on records. If you have heard Knopler live the past 15 years, you will know his guitar is allowed a more prominent place live than on records.

I did not think much of him, as I was only familiar with his early 00’s pop stuff which is not my thing at all. I saw him with Dead and Co a few years ago and was really impressed. He’s a great player. But the single he just dropped seems more of a return to his early stuff that I don’t like, and the video is pretty cringe-worthy. Still, I’d look forward to seeing him with Dead and Co. again.

Very meh! In my opinion. I definitely like some of his playing, mostly his covers though.
How big is the guy? Is it just me or it looks like he plays a small toy guitar.

Yeah it's true, I think he's pretty tall. However, Albert King makes a Flying V look like a baby's play thing!

Sounds to me like a purposeful tribute to Eric clapton’s August era type of sound.

Sounds like Clapton and Steve Winwood did on their stuff in the 80’s.

Yeah! It also sounds pretty "Africa" by Toto sounding to me... were they playing with him, maybe I'm totally off, but I read something like that in the comments section I believe.

He’s playing through a Soldano head in the video. And it looks like the keyboardist is Greg Phillinganes.

Oh definitely. My first thought was that it sounded like a B side off of Journeyman.

I don't even mean that in a bad way. It's a perfectly enjoyable, upbeat song. It just makes me want to put on the superior source material it's referencing.
