this is one of 3 new tunes i'm working on right now....

a bit of a new direction.
this is a first mix.....looking for any first impressions or suggestions.
i think this mix is bass guitar light.... tho in the monitors and cans it seems pretty full,
on other playback systems it seems light.

Good tune...I enjoyed that! The mix as it is is good and works IMHO. Any suggestions I have are really nits.

I think the song has enough bottom end (bass) though the bass guitar isn't well defined. Not necessarily a problem, just since you questioned bass, that was my thought on it.

The only other thing I thought was that the vocals could be more present. Perhaps a smidge louder. I think the vocals sit just a little too low in the mix. This may be what is desired...as I said, it works as it is.

First up; nice tune man. You're output is relentless, I wish I was that prolific with my music writing!

The bass sounds great on my studio monitors but agree it is lost in the mix on my phone / laptop speaks (when isn't it?).

The bass sounds quite clean? You could look at adding a little bit of grit to to the bass track so it has some mid-high overtones that make it more audible on consumer audio devices. Unfortunately "make the bass louder" probably won't work in this scenario.

    Keep it up!

    hey squid!
    thanks for helping me out......
some others that have listened, have told me the kick is overwhelming the mix...
for sure, i have 3 kick mics, including a sub, and i had it too hot....
    maybe that's burying the bass..

but as it is, i don't like the bass track, and plan on retracking a new one.

this one was just to flesh the arrangement out.

vox, i added a high end lift across the vocal bus, and that seems to do just what you suggest..
i'll post a new version soon.

hey twelve! thanks for the comments

yea, getting a mix to translate across the most playback variables,
    that IS the trick!
actually, the bass if run thru a sansamp bass di with the drive up pretty good,
but i'll track a new bass track, and dial in some growl for sustain and clarity.
    that should add enough grit....
if not, i've got a bunch of sims just waiting to be taken out of dry dock.

Sorry Gonzo; not sure which one I'm supposed to be listening to. Whatever I click on, there's several tracks that come up!
