I have a matching headstock on my Classic Vibe, and I whish that it was plain.

I like both matching and plain but I think that one is really nice.

No they are not. They can barely give a **** what consumers think......and I'm A HUGE Fender fan with about 20 Registered Fender products. They (Fender) don't take their barking orders from pee-on's like us and/or the sales we bring. Even mass sales can't stop them from discontinuing a product. Seems like they have an indecisive monkey in their midst, that says "let's move on". And the "move" is a fail.

I don't mind a painted headstock, on some colours it can look great.

But a black headstock on a different coloured guitar? NO.

Painted headstocks look good with certain colors(mostly pastel ones)...they also bring out the boring looking rosewood in many cases....in other cases they look cheapo...

I don't mind painted headstocks, most of the time.

I don't know, I always thought my Squier HM-2 was a good looking guitar

Or even my Kramer looks pretty beastly with a black headstock.

You'd be surprised. Somebody at Fender was watching the Texas Toast Guitars livestream last night. They wrote Matt, the owner, afterwards and told him they enjoyed the livestream and then talked about the Ash situation at Fender. They had mentioned it during the livestream, also. They also watch Trogly's Guitars on youtube.

If they're watching content on YouTube, I don't doubt they're cruising the forums, too.

Fender released “the Strat” in 1980 I think,.... it has a painted headstock. Painted the same color that the guitar was painted though.

I find it tacky on teles and strats, but I like it in jaguars and jazzmasters... weird.

I like painted headstocks, but only under very specific circumstances:
    1. It matches the body color.
    2. The neck and fretboard are not the same wood.
In other words, if it's an all-maple (or all-rosewood) neck/fretboard, I say no paint. If it's a maple neck with a rosewood or ebony board, and they're covering up the maple headstock to match the body, that looks nice to me.

Follow it: I always like the black painted headstocks on my Gretsch guitars, and that's probably just because I've grown to expect that from them.

    They aren't Strats.

It looks great on Super Strat style guitars, had a couple myself.

Just doesn't fit IMO on a traditional style strat.

Just for black headstocks or painted in general?
I do like matching headstocks on some strats.
