    Hi together,

I would like to ask your opinion: Are these faults tolerable with a new and fresh out of the box player?

The neck seems to be glued at the nut and there are several dings besides the little flake of at the pickguard. This is my first mexican made Fender so I don´t have anything to compare.
Is that what can be expected or am I too picky? This is my first brand new guitar in 30 years...
    Thanks in advance!

    Nik

IMHO you are probably going to receive answers ranging from “its minor, your going to ding it eventually so keep it” to “Thats horrible take it back.”
The thing is, if the guitar speaks to you then its a keeper regardless of its faults.

However beware of the being enamoured new toy phase where its awesome and you run out of time.
For me I’d return it as it is not a new mint guitar that I had bought. YMMV.

Mine is a 2018 MiM, I wouldn't be happy with the finish. Especially the pocket/neck part.

A 'new' MiM should look new, not second hand.

Check the returns policy and return if you can.

My eyes must be worse than I thought, I didn't see any deal breakers for a MIM, if it plays and sounds good it would would be fine with me.

See that is why I am asking, there are several dust corns but they cannot be wiped away. The biggest dings are on the treble horn, seems to be gotten in touch with something blue and behind the bridge there is ding which can be seen very clearly against the light. I am not a fan of sending back stuff at all. Returning would´nt be a problem though...
the guitar itself is fine. Im am quite torn back and forth. I absolutly love the color...
Question is, if I order another one, if this one will be better...

The biggest concern for me is that nut area. I think I see where you mean that it was glued. If it really did have a piece break out I would probably not keep it.

Let me guess... Came from Musicians Friend or Guitar Center... ?

Half the flaws you are talking about I can't find in your photos. I would not have have even noticed them.

The stuff by the neck joint and the rough looking edge of the pickguard are turn offs for me.

I guess I would ask myself - If I saw this is a store would I buy it?

I'd send that one back, especially seeing the damaged neck pocket finish.

Just talked with the guys at thomann and have been sending them these pics. According to them it is a QS issue with Fender. Will be getting a new one...

Yeah man, I'd be worried about what I can't see. What's it like under the hood?

+1.... The others weren't really anything that I could see, but the edge of the pocket looked like an obvious small chip. I would return it. I returned a surf pearl strat about two weeks ago for similar issues. I think for the, IMO, crazy price of an MIM player, it would have to be unmarked.

I like that color though, I don't think I've seen it before.

    .

Given the tight inventory shortages and the minor-ness of the issues I'd suggest keeping the guitar. Fighting with the store for the returns, long delay getting a replacement (if there is one in the pipeline to replace it with), possibility of the shipper damaging the next guitar in-transit and your time getting that resolved, possible similar issues with the next specimen that arrives otherwise safely.

That 'repaired crack' at the nut looks more like wood grain unless you have more photos around the front and other side to prove a repaired 'breakout'.

These types of threads pop up when someone has second doubts about spending on a purchase. The search for any minor flaw that justifies those doubts ensues. It's the emotional response of the buying process, not really anything to do with the product itself.

Tune the guitar up, plug it into your favorite amp, kick the distortion or overdrive pedal on high, and jam out with it. Have fun, not stress.

Basically I am totally with you. I don´t expect perfectness btw. I am working on it Om Shanti.... I mean look at my main guitar, this thing is rocked...
But the amount of dings (esp. the one @ the treble horn, where there is even so blue plastic in the crack) is just too much.
And I would like to have one shiny guitar, esp in that yummy color...
Even the guy @ Thomann whom I showed the pics stated that this is not normal. I would have been happy with some bucks off the regular price, he even didn´t go for this but told me to send it back. So...hopefully there is another one on its way tonite. Thanks for the input so far!

Yes. When you get the next one don't go over it with 200% zoom, wipe it down, tune it ply and then decide if you like it.

I say, put your microscope away and just play it.
I don’t see what you are complaining about.

You will be very lucky if they send you another that is better than this one.
