image.jpg documenting my steps here. Started life as a Hadean tele.

    Removed neck and hardware:
    image.jpg

Roughed it up with 600 grit and coated it with Rustoleum semi-gloss. image.jpg

Here is a mock up of what it will look like. Still awaiting the arrival of the gold control plate. Trying to decide between parchment pickguard or mint green. Will have rosewood fretboard. Installing modern MIM strat neck with gold tuners. image.jpg

Fender OV tele bridge pickup is here, waiting to be installed. Chose the thin, semi gloss finish because I'm hoping for it to age naturally, somewhat quickly. Do you all think the mint green or the parchment PG may look better? (mint one hasn't arrived yet)

    Looks good so far!

I'd go parchment...but that's because I strongly dislike mint guards.

thanks! I was 100 percent going for the mint, until I lined up the parchment.. and it looks great to me. Luckily the one I ordered was from China for 6 bucks, in case I don't use it.

here's to hoping that the control plate is a similar color gold to the bridge! There are about a million different gold shades.

I know you said it was a thin semi gloss finish, but it looks more like a satin in the photo, which looks good.

Yeah. looks pretty satiny in real life, too. I think if Fender made the finish, they'd probably call it "satin." I think it looks a bit better than the flat or satin finish that Rustoleum has, which has no sheen whatsoever.

The more coats of that rustoleum semi you put on the glossier it gets. I have used it many times.

I noticed it scratches pretty easily, is that just the way the paint is, or just the fact that it's fairly freshly coated?

I let the paint cure out a week before I top coat with clear. Just to make sure it gases out. Anytime I sped up the process the results were not too good. It may say fast drying, but that is to the touch, it still needs cure time. IMHO, YMMV.

Parchment for sure! I just can't see the mint green with the black and gold hardware.

Update: pickups and hardware all attached. All that's left is neck and setup!! Think I decided to stick with parchment

Eewwww . . . . That mint sucks all the attention from the black and gold. No good. I like the parchment. But then I'm with the "strongly dislike mint" crowd anyway.

    Cool project.

Thanks! I'm normally a mint fan, but I do definitely agree that the parchment goes better with the gold.
