Just ordered a new slide from Taylor guitars.
It's made from ebony. It's super light in weight and won't fret out on a guitar that's not set up for slide. Mine is 11/16" in diameter, however they offer different diameters for whatever size you need.
Cool that they are made from scap and are of high grade scrap at that! Less waste is a good ideal.
Will post pics when it arrives along with a review of how it sounds. Expecting that it will not be very warm or long on sustain, but a cool piece to add to the collection. :thumb::cool:

I’m a big fan of the Ebony Project and have wanted one of those ever since I heard about them. There’s no place near me that actually carries them and I really need to try it on my finger before I buy it. I will grab one at some point. I hope you enjoy it and please post your impressions of it as you get used to it

Here's a photo of the Taylor "Ebony Project " slide.
The inside is slightly sanded as to allow some grip.
Am surprised at the feel and tones from a wooden slide. As expected sustain is not long without vibrato, but very clear in tone. Not warm as expected but not overly bright. Definitely has usable and cool tones.:thumb::cool: 20190925_133113.jpg

As a slide player I've tried many materials and settled on glass. I'd like to try ebony to see how I like it. Also don't worry about breaking it when it inevitably hits the floor.

Personally (as most slides seem too heavy for me) the lightness of this slide helps to navigate fretboard easily. Positioning of the correct strings is accurate without extraneous noise.
Definitely a different (to me) but usable tool for new tones.
Hope you find the same if you so choose to try one.
Again...a great way to repurpose waste material which is admirable :thumb::cool:

I’m planning to take a tour of the Taylor factory next month and looking forward to picking one up at the shop there. I’ve got over twenty slides and I’m always looking for something different.

I’m a big fan of their ebony project and if you’re at all interested, Taylor’s podcast #28 is a fascinating interview the woman who negotiated the purchase, Barbara Wight. She was the CFO who came into John Deere and turned the company around and negotiated the international sale of the company to China. She retired but came out of retirement to work at Taylor. She has been intimately involved in the project to the point of fighting two fires in the ebony plant. Well worth a listen.

Interesting and different... I'll prob be sticking with my brass slide but, will have to try one of those some time.. I like the looks of it... and know I'm curious as to what it would sound like..
