I picked up this 1994 John English built Stratocaster yesterday. It was a trade deal through a local shop. The owner's brother passed away and unfortunately the original case and certificate can not be found. An email to fender confirms its correct except the pickguard and added humbucker with toggle switch. Thankfully as it's a modern build it was routed for the humbucker at the factory so no chisels were used by the previous owner.

1 piece ash body with AAA Flame maple top
22 fret rosewood slabbed flame maple neck with abalone dots and side markers
    2 post modern bridge
    Chrome locking tuners
2 custom shop single coils and I believe a Pearly Gates in the bridge. Humbucker splits and phases.

Really nice! I have a Pearly Gates in the neck on one of my guitars (also set up with a coil split) and I love it.

I’m curious about the cost of such a beautiful C.S. on the used market. How deep did yah have to dig for her?

    Congrats. A total stunner.

So, here's what happened. There's a local amp repair shop that sells only consignment pieces. I had a Mesa head on consignment I had found at a pawn shop for really cheap. WAY too much amp than I needed so in turn I put it up for sale at still a great price that yielded me a little profit. It sold fast so i went there to collect my earnings.
As soon as I walked into the shop I saw this Strat and grabbed it.
I asked the shop owner what the story.was as the price tagged was too good to be true $1,250.00
She said the owner's brother had passed away and this was part of his collection. He couldn't find the original case or certificate but had the gig bag he used to gig with it Also she said and showed me, the email to Fender authenticating it. No one seemed to have a clue who John English was.
To cut this story short, I offered $1,175.00 and he accepted, with my amp selling I have about $900.00 into this. Probably the best find I've ever had, and I've had some ridiculous pawn shop scores in the past

John English was considered (and still is) one of the very best luthier ever working for Custom shop. He passed in 2008 I guess and his guitars and creations are considered among the best that came out from the Custom shop.
I met the guy way back in 1993.

Beautiful. I can see something there, not sure if it’s a marker or the hole where the marker should be. John English worked for a while in the British Secret Service. Obviously no one knew at the time but he was later to star in a couple of movies about his adventures. Seems he was known as Johnny at the time.

It's there, just darkly figured abalone. I admit I did a double take at first myself.
