Picked this up yesterday. Saw it on my local Craigslist at $800. The guy lived 10-15 minutes from my house!

1988 Alvarez DY67 by Kazuo Yairi. Nicer tuners, rosewood sides and back, cedar top, maple binding, ebony fingerboard.

It has some dings and obvious fret wear, but the neck is straight and it plays really well. Overall it's in fairly good shape for being about 30 years old. Still could use a good clean up. Never owned a guitar with a cedar top.

I've seen multiple models online that range anywhere from $350 over $1000. Since this one was local, and I had a chance to see it in person before I bought it, I was interested. Offered $500-$550, but he wanted $700. For the convenience of being in person and as well as having a nice case included, I helped him out and payed a little more than I wanted. We settled at $650.

I've been wanting one of these for a while now. Got the gas from @AncientAx .

Nice, a co-worker bought a Yairi, and seemed to be very pleased with it. I didn't get to play it.
Thanks workmanship and attention to detail is wonderful.
    Enjoy!

    beautiful axe

I have 3 yaris, a '91 DY 62c (very similar to yours but with burled mahogany sides and back), an '04 CY-127ce (nylon string) and a WY-1 12 string.

I could play any of them for hours

It looks beautiful. Love the back and sides... and those keys! Alvarez Yairis are so under-rated. Congratulations! Great score!!!! Would love to hear a recording.

BTW... Will be sending you a PM in a moment.

Here's a little sample I just recorded with an iPhone. Sorry, still slacking on my studio. Half the crap is still boxed up. Been sitting here for about 2 months now. Doesn't sound too bad if played back through a pair of speakers.

Everything is still just as it was when I bought it. Strings and all. Haven't had a chance to mess with it yet.

Thanks for the recording. Are the strings new are what came on the guitar when you got it?

They are what he had on it already. I asked him what he used, but I can't remember. I'm thinking d'addario phosphor bronzes. Not sure what gauge, but they feel pretty light. They don't look very old and they don't sound brand new. He said he would strum some cowboy chords on it every now and then, so it didn't sound like he played it a whole lot. They might have been on there for a while, just unused.

That's funny. No, never tried to play any Blondie songs. But I did just watch a Netflix movie called CBGB again the day before. There's a big reference to Blondie and other bands (Talking Heads, Ramones, etc.) who got their start there. Kind of a coincidence that you brought them up.
