Some of you may have seen my anticipatory NGD thread. The guitar arrived two days before originally scheduled (whoo-hoo!). Despite the picture below, it did not come with a small dog sticking out of the box:

Waited a few hours and unpacked it:

I'm trying to stay grounded here, but this thing is amazing. Wildwood asks for your setup preferences including string brand/gauge, and they nailed it - the guitar made the journey from Colorado to Maine via FedEx and came out of the box only slightly out of tune, and the relief was perfect. The neck is great, with the "deep-C" profile and vintage-narrow frets, smooth satin finish on the back, and a glossy fretboard and headstock face. Action is a hair below Fender specs (exactly as I requested), and I can't bend a note enough to choke it out anywhere up the neck. On that note, the contoured heel has a noticeable positive effect when you get way up there.

Fit & finish are immaculate, and the Dark Night burst is really well-executed. The guitar is nice and light at 7.54 lbs, and balances perfectly...it just has an overall feel that sets it apart, that I noticed it as soon as I picked it up.

I love the pop-in arm, and after figuring out how to tighten it up, it has zero flop, and the trem is nice and responsive. I was expecting to swap the block and arm out for Callaham parts, but as long as the bushing in the Fender system doesn't wear out, that won't be necessary.

Pickups sound really good so far - I'll dial them in over the weekend, but early indications are that they're keepers.

Is there anything I don't like about it? I'm not crazy about the way the push-push tone knob (that activates the neck and bridge pickups simultaneously) sticks out above the pickguard - and even more when engaged - but the tonal benefit is very cool, so I'll learn to live with it. That's about it. This is the best all-around US-built Fender I've ever owned, and I'm very pleasantly surprised that it really exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend the AmProII to anyone in the market for a top-notch Strat with some modern appointments.

Very nice, congrats! I have zero need for another Strat but the AmProII is tempting...

I guess I could live with that :thumb: I don’t know what it is with that finish, but I suddenly got an urge to listen to some darkwave...
