It came with a generic case and had some nitro bubbling at the top of the headstock. The only thing that caught me off guard was the 5 way switch as they shipped with a 3 way. I’m far from an expert so I’ve included relevant pics. If someone notices anything else out of place, please let me know.

Mostly looks legit I do not see anything pointedly amiss. The three or four I had in the past were 5 way with the 3 way in the case, but depending on the year it could have come the otherway around.

Thanks for the reply. Should I bother trying to sand or fix up the bubbling?

    Hi, @Supa Necta
    Happy AVRI Strat. Day !

I would probably leave the headstock lacquer alone.
Sanding the bubbles might cause the rear of headstock to become lighter than headstock face ?

Nice guitar. Personally, I'd leave the headstock alone. Not a terribly hard fix if it bugs you, but at least it's not on the audience side.;)

As mentioned before they came with a spare switch in the case if you wanted true spec.

I'm pretty sure they ship with a 3 way installed and a 5 way in the case. I would put a 3 way back on but YMMV. Really nice axe, enjoy it!

They were wired with a 3 way switch for vintage authenticity but they also included a 5 way switch in the accessories case candy to upgrade for modern convinience.

Mine came with a 3 way installed and a 5 included in the case. I swapped to the 5 for the extra sounds once I realized that no one cared how many positions my switch could be set in except for me.

Looks good.Virtually no one left the 3-way switch in. Appears that the 5-way switch is a more modern version than originally came with the guitar (in the case candy). The spring and white fiber board give it away... should be red/brown fiber board and no spring.
Regardless, great guitar to buy... and a great price.

It looks like you made a great score! From the pics it all looks fine & legit, and if you like the neck and sounds you've found a strat for life for very little $$$.

The 5-position switch is not surprising at all. The guitar has had a long life and someone would eventually swap out the 3-position.

I'd leave the bubbling on the headstock be.

Happy, happy NGD! I'm a little jealous actually!

My experience too, with my 1993 AVRI57 (bought brand new back then).

    Beautiful guitar!

My 2005 AVRI 57 came with the 3-way switch installed, 5-way was with the rest of the case candy.

Also, the decal on the headstock of my AVRI 57 has gone all wrinkly, but I'm going to leave it alone.
    Mojo!

Yep. They do. And I’d go ahead and run the bridge to the bottom tone pot too.

I bought one of these in the 90's Fender shipped them with a 5-way in the case for the buyer to install if they wished. That's a nice score, put it back together and enjoy it!

Thanks everyone. I’m loving the neck. Even the vintage frets and radius feel great. It was funny that I was eyeing a used ‘62 on Craigslist for $1800 hoping to eventually get them down a bit and this just popped up.

Sometimes these unloved AVRIs you find in the wild are the best deals imaginable – short of the proverbial strat in the attic. I got my AV52 tele by trading in my Classic Player 60s strat (used) and 150€… at the going prices for those strats at the time, I got my AVRI for ≈ 800€. I can see why the owner wanted to part with it… she's a little on the heavy side, she has scratches and dings. BUT she's a total gem of a guitar!

    I'm sure yours is too!
