Good job on review. I do knows these come in stock and go out rather quickly. I wonder how they compare with Harley Benton.

Cool! Glad you got a good one, because some of the reviews aren't so glowing.

I bought a Grote Jazz Hollowbody off Amazon awhile back. Was $169, but with a $60 credit for signing up for a Store Card, I got it for $100. It has some very minor finish issues, and the p90 pickup is really microphonic, but overall is a great guitar. I did buy an all wood $10 bridge to replace the tunamatic and paid a luthier $70 to get it set up. Made a noticeable improvement in how it plays and sounds.

How do they do it? Yeah, I wondered that, too. Best guess: cheap & well trained labor, no environmental restrictions on the factory, and CNC machines.

Here's my Grote, before the bridge upgrade:

I Have the FFTH its the tele thin line. Had to take the neck off and widen the body thru holes so I could line the stings up correctly. other than that it was good out the box. Sounds close to a fender thin line. and at the low price it made me happy. Yes they sell out fast one or two days and sold out.

Which model Wilkinson tuners did you buy? I'm looking into replacing the ones on my Grote, and your Firefly probably has the same tuners that came on mine. Not sure what to get for it.

I got the Wilkenson EZ-Lock tuners. My first experience with them, and I really like them actually. I referenced them and my feelings for them briefly in the video, but I would recommend them. Rock solid and SUPER affordable as well:

Heck of a deal and from looking around a bit, they make some really nice looking variations. Thanks for posting it up. :)

I have a good friend who bought a Firefly 338 and brought it by for me to see and tweak the set up. Can't really dispute what you're saying about them.

Overall cosmetic quality was excellent and comparable to other imports costing $400-$500. My take on the hardware was that it was cheap and the first upgrades I'd make would be the bridge and quite possibly the tuners although those may have improved since his purchase earlier this year.

The micro-phonic pickups would pretty much render it useless as a gigging guitar but for lower volume home play they're passable for some. Personally I would have to replace them with something better and not micro-phonic.

My take for him is that if you can live with those areas where it falls short of ideal for $200 it's a screaming bargain. But if not adding up the cost of a quality steel bridge/inserts, better tuners, and pro quality pickups you'd have $400-$500 into it anyway but.....no spalted maple top. That's a nice touch.
