    I don’t know if the term is ever applied to ash, but similar-looking grain anomalies in quartersawn spruce are sometimes called “bear claw”. It used to be considered a flaw. Now a guitar top with a lot of attractive bear claw is sometimes considered a premium.

    Go Ash! No quilt here, and a thick maple top on one side.

    What a beautiful guitar you have there, congratulations! And yes, Ash does often exhibit those kinds of anomalies that just add to its personality and beauty.
