2015 custom shop 1964 SUPER HEAVY relic. My first custom shop strat after a slew of AVRI strats and teles over the years. So far I am pretty impressed with the sound and playability. I think the only things I would prefer differently would be an unsanded lacquer neck and a 7.25" radius but all in all super happy with my purchase. According to the build sheet the finish is extreme relic and pickups are handwound 69s. I read online these can be noisy but so far mine have been very quiet even under copious amounts of gain.

    Now onto the porn

yeah unfiltered morning light in first shot. It's actually Sea Foam Green or as Greg Koch puts it, a glorious tone hue.

Sweet looking strat. They really do a nice job with their relics, I think they look way more realistic than a lot of the relic jobs from other companies I've seen. It's more than just sanding the edges, when you look at them up close and see the crazing on the finish like can be seen in some of your photos and those sorts of micro details it's really quite impressive. I also just got my first Custom Shop strat (a heavy relic) and the neck is a real baseball bat. How's yours?

    Personally I love it.
But I agree about the sanded neck. Also, that super white pickguard would have to go (for me). Just curious, did the CS provide the L series # ???
    Enjoy it. HNGD!!!

Very cool! But I agree with a color like that you'd want to go with mint green pickguard, that will make it look twice as cool.

They must've, they did a whole 64 L series a few years ago. I have a NOS, I think they did a relic version as well.

At least with that beauty you don't have to worry about that first ding or scratch. I just can't take my CS tele out of the case and enjoy it for all the worry, and it's up for sale. Back to the care free joy of abusing my American specials and standards.

Looks cool... l can only play 7 1/4 radius necks anything else cramps my hand up for some reason... How’s the over all quality in comparison to the AVRI’s?

THIN. Factory spec was .790-.930. It's .788-.929 per my calipers. Generally I try to stick with guitars in the .75-.95 range they are comfortable for me. Anything bigger my hands cramps. Most of the heavy relics I saw and liked online did have fatter necks so was pleased to find this one. For comparison my 1991 62 AVRI is .818-.914.

To the other guys yes this is part of the series they put out late 2014/early 2015. It was still sitting at a shop up in Canada new and I was able to used the currency exchange to get it at a decent price, around $3500. I also agree a mint guard would look nice. They call this parchment but looks pretty white. I'll probably leave it as is because it looks similar to the 63 sea foam Kirk Hammett used in the I Disappear video and that one also had a white guard.

Yes lately I have been getting into factory and naturally reliced guitars. It's been a good summer. Bought back the 60 (heacy VOS) reissue les paul I sold in december. Also bought a first year 1983 San Dimas Rhoads with a lot of natural wear over the years. Also discovered it's a factory overspray of sea foam green so maybe one day that will peek out. Looks like they shot the black overcoat on top of some soapy water or some other surfactant that is now working its way to the stop. Another 10-20 years may start flaking off even. Also had gold/brass hardware which has some nice flaking and pitting.

I have owned maybe 6-8 Gen 1s and another 6-8 Gen 2s and maybe one or 2 Gen 3. I would say the feel is very similar but as was pointed out earlier you are really paying for all the handwork that goes into the relicing and IMO based on what I have seen vs the price, though expensive, it's really not too bad. I lucked out finding an actual NOS 2015 still hanging in the shop so that probably saved me $700 or so over buying new today which helped. I love strats but not sure I love them enough to spend more than $4K on one!
