Been lurking around and figured it was finally time to post!

My new Strat arrived last night and I'm pretty excited. Found a brand new MIJ ST62 (2017) on Reverb for $250 less than they are selling on CME...

Have always wanted a vintage style Strat in Sonic Blue.

    A few observations:
-the fit and finish are amazing - a true step up from my MIM Standard and appear just as nice as MIAs I've played

-the body is very light weight and extremely resonant acoustically - has more sustain than my MIM

-the electronics are a mix of quality. I wasn't sure what to expect because there are so many different ST62 models and no clear definition online on what is included in this 2017. It came with CTS 250k pots and what appears to be a Switchcraft style switch which will both stay.

-The pickups are cheap ceramics that don't sound very good. They are described on Fender's website as "Vintage-Style Single-Coil Strat®" which I hoped might be Alnico 5 but they are def brittle/thin sounding ceramics (with staggered pole pieces). Sound nowhere near as good as the Fat 50s I put in my MIM. I've already ordered some 57/62s as replacements. I think this guitar is going to sing after that.

-the tone/volume knobs are slightly smaller and look kinda cheap compared to the "normal" ones I'm used to. Will replace those and pup covers with aged white. The mint green pickguard and backplate are very nice and will stay.

-this is my first 7.25" radius guitar and it's not as much difference from 9.5" as I expected. The small vintage frets are the biggest difference and will take a little getting used to but no problem.

A few pics from the seller of the actual guitar as well as a shot with my MIM:

Woah!! That’s gorgeous!! Fugijen certainly craft some fine Instruments. Happy NGD!

Is it me or do the MIJ Guitars have a bluer tint to the Sonic Blue color? I always see them on Reverb and they always look closer to a light sky blue where the MIM/MIA Sonic Blue looks almost closer to off white/grey and only looks blue against the right background

Yes I think you're right - the MIJ Sonics have a deeper blue than the MIAs which are a bit more faded/washed out (and look even better I think). Those MIM Classic Player series Sonics are even more faded/washed out which I don't really like.

Have fun with the upgrade projects. Besides being a beauty, she’ll have a singers voice as well.

Welcome to the MIJ Strat Club. I have an ST67. The finish as you rightly say is fabulous and I like the 7.25 radius but you are right the pick ups aren't as outstanding. Mine are Alnicos but you need to wick up the gain to get decent distortion.

The fit and finish way exceeds my 78 MIA Mustang.

    Cheers

    Great guitar!
I have MIJ Strat and a Tele as well, so yes, indeed great quality. Also, the 57/62 came on my AVRI '62 Strat FSR, and all I can say is you made the right choice for this guitar. Should be so very next to my AVRI '62 from any point of view, especially if you interfere with electronics. Color? Hmmm I suck for blue, so again YES!
Play it loud and be proud!

I have a 2005 MIJ '72 Re-issue and if yours is anywhere near as nice as mine you've got a keeper.

    Fantastic quality on mine.

Oh .... and I'm loving your Sonic. HNGD.
