No definitely not the same guitar Sooper. Maybe reconsider buying it if it's a good deal? Would be interested in seeing pics.

That’s quite a find! How much did you pay for it, if you don’t mind me asking?

    Very nice! Congrats!

The condition on that is crazily good. I'm also interested to know whether it is a 2 or 3-tone sunburst as @felis asked.

Given that the controls have not aged as they often do, I doubt that the guitar has seen enough light for the red to fade that much if it were a 3TSB.

I have an ST50 that is the same year and nearly as clean as that but the knobs are fully yellow and the finish is still a bright 3TSB.

Did they produce both 2 and 3-tone on these at the same time? That seems slightly odd to me but I guess they must have. (I seem to recall seeing two different colour codes for Tokai sunbursts - is it yellow sunburst and golden sunburst or something??)

Hopefully the experts can help expand my limited knowledge :D

I wont won't say in case I ever try to sell it but elow market value.

Beautiful guitar and I'll be afraid to play the darned thing for fear of scratching it all up! Be a shame not to though!

I've seen one or two green ones - but I haven't been collecting them long.

Imissed out on a green Fernandes Revival from the 80's which is very very rare.

I hear you there. Mine has been in its case pretty much since the day I bought it.

There's a very strong tendency with old Tokais for the knobs to age & go cream coloured while the pickups covers don't age. There are a couple of examples in this thread that show this.

The only green Tokais I have ever seen were what they called MG - metallic green. It was so dark that it looked black in low light. Not my favourite colour option.

Yes Tokai offered both two tone & three tone sunbursts from the start of production, but they could be paired up with either rosewood or maple boards without any apparent attempt to be "vintage accurate". So there are plenty of examples around (Springys & Goldstars) of three tone SB bodies with maple necks, & two tone SB with rosewood boards.

This pic is from the photo shoot for that magazine article that I'm sure you've all seen.

Nice guitars. A friend owns a lovely Springy and also a Tele-like (Breezysound I think it is) and they're both brilliant instruments. Not just price-wise but build quality and sound. Suffice to say he ain't selling either and I can't blame him grrr hehe.

@jofish what does your guitar body color code say?

Color code chart states; GS stand for 2-Tone, and YSO for 3-tone.

I have my doubts about this, because my GS (stamped color code) Springy has some (faded) red hue in it? Otherwise, I may have yet another anomaly in my hands?!?!? ;)
