I just picked up this Ovation 1778TX-5 from Guitar Center today. I know Ovation doesn't get a lot of love lately, but I really like them. The curved back is a lot more comfortable for me, and I love the bright sound.

I have to commend Guitar Center - the action was a bit high on this one, so the sales lady suggested I have the tech look at it. He removed the shims under the bridge, put on a new set of strings, and now it plays great.

The preamp offers a lot of adjustment when playing through an amp, and has a built-in tuner. And of course, it has that Ovation acoustic brightness I've come to love over the years. I'm real happy with this one.

great! I like Ovations, they have there own way of being played and I think that's were some people perhaps don't gel with them, it only requires a soft touch to play them. If you start banging on them to hard they will buzz and mute on you at different times. actually they can be a good tool in teaching you how not to grip the fret board with to much tension. Have fun, Enjoy!

Congrats on the Ovation. I got my current Ovation a little bit before you, somewhere around 1973, hard to remember that long ago. I still love it and it hangs on the wall in my music corner of the house. Mine is the Balladeer, spruce top.

I hope you enjoy yours for a long time.

My first Ovation was a Matrix - they featured an aluminum neck. Problem is, the frets were cast along with the neck, so once they wore down, there was no way to replace them. I figured it was time to replace it.

Thanks for all the interest and comments!
