Update: I returned the guitar. There is a fretting out issue I didn't initially detect when bending the B string at the 18th fret.I didn't feel like investing money on getting the frets leveled so I returned it because my refund window was still open.
That's the problem with stores who don't set up their guitars in the store and maintain them. You go in and try one but the action is too high and out of whack so you can't really know exactly how well it will play once properly set up.Then you bring it home and set it up and discover that there is an issue.Luckily I bought it at Guitar Center and they offer a 45 day return. If they would maintain their guitars more to be decently playable they would be able to fix such issues and boost sales with less returns on their end. They all have in-store techs who should set up the action and do a quick fret level to ensure decent playability.
I think I can live with it since I don’t play too much up there, but the rare times I do it jumps out at me. I suppose those frets just need to be leveled out a little more?
Yes a qualified tech can level them.Sometimes they'll use a plastic hammer and bang the slightly higher fret until it evens out with the other ones.I've had it done several times to other guitars and within a few minutes the guitar plays great with no fret buzz or string choking out.But with this guitar I figured I'd just return it since I was able to and maybe wait for a Lake placid blue one which was my initial choice.
Yeah man! Love it, congrats! If I get extra cash I’ll get the 50’s tele edit: didn’t read that you returned it! Bummer because it looks like a million bucks
The same pickups they put in the Vintera vintage modified 60s Strat which are slightly overwound with enamel wire and gray bobbins. They sounded really nice...the EQ was smooth and they were really ballsy.
Now you need to get a goldtop... oh! Nevermind! You already have the best looking most versatile guitar on the planet. Just be happy and play! Congratulations. Happy NGD!!!!
I saw this late, bummer you had to return it. I'm generally not a fan of relicking (sp?) to any degree, but man, that thing was gorgeous. I am also a sucker for gold guitars.
Sonny - Just curious, what did you tell them when you took it back? did you go into details or just say "not my thing"? And did they try to push back at all and ask to fix? Or just accept and give the refund?
Guitar center has a 45 day return policy if you bring back the item in the same condition it was purchased in.They are really cool about it...no questions asked. They take your reciept and put the money back on your card.
