I don't play super low action, close to 1/8th inch at 17th fret which is double Fender minimum spec or 1/16th. This one did not stop rattling on the A and E string till near 1/4th inch action. High action is one thing but 1/4th inch is completely unacceptable. For comparison PRS states action should be at or above 1/16th at the 12th fret and while I don't like it that low my PRS Custom 22 can play completely buzz and rattle free with 1/16th at the 12th fret so it is absolutely possible for a guitar to be made well enough straight off the line and hit this low of action.

Beyond just the buzz issues this is the third AO 60's guitar in 11 months that had issues with the G&G case. This one has a latch that won't open unless you push back on the top lid and so did two of the three AO 60's Tele's I bought. This one also has the center neck rest so loose it wiggles back and forth about an inch either way. I know Fender did not make the case but three of the four AO 60's line I've bought in 11 months had bad cases and 4 of 4 had the exact same buzzes and rattles on the same three strings in the exact same fret ranges. And on the first three each time GC and myself called Fender their response was, just exchange it for another so obviously they don't give a crap about helping their customers, retailers or supporting their product. I am not saying I will for sure never buy another Fender guitar, if I play one somewhere in a shop and it works well I could see buying it but I will never seek out a Fender guitar again. Their amps are a different story, I love those and have never had a bad experience with any of the 15+ I 've owned.

In the past 13 months I have bought 12 brand new guitars. Here is the breakdown:

    Fender - 5
1 AO 50's Tele - Perfect right off the wall

3 AO 60's Tele - All three went back due to buzz and rattle issues

1 AO 60's Strat - On the FedEx truck right now back to Sweetwater due to buzz and rattle issue

    1 out of 5 were acceptable - 20% ratio

    Gibson - 2
ES 335 - Perfect right off the wall

Les Paul Standard 60's - Perfect right off the wall

    2 of 2 were perfect - 100% ratio

    PRS - 2
Custom 24 SE - Perfect right off the wall

Custom 22 Core - Perfect right off the wall

    2 of 2 were perfect - 100% ratio

    Martin - 2
000 28 Custom Deluxe - Perfect right off the wall

HD 28 - Perfect right off the wall

    2 of 2 were perfect - 100% ratio

    Taylor - 3
714ce - Perfect right off the wall. Exchanged it for 814ce Dlx because I liked the Sitka spruce top better than the Lutz spruce but the guitar played perfect.

814ce Dlx - Perfect right off the wall. Exchanged it for 914ce because I liked the sound of the 914 but the guitar played perfect.

914ce - Perfect right off the wall. Probably the bets acoustic I've ever played including a $15K Martin CS Braz Rosewood and a $9K Bedell Braz RW.

    3 of 3 were perfect - 100% ratio

Yamaha APX6 acoustic. Could never get that thing to feel comfortable. There was just something about it that was always off... and it stunk.

    My first one...an Applause!

    Plastic neck....

Aluminum fret board with aluminum frets cast in place!

Plus it was an Ovation clone so had the rounded plastic body.....

At least I gave it to a buddy who had quit playing and it re-energized him and he got back into guitar big time...so a redeeming quality!

100% positive it's in a land fill by now..

I wish these returned guitars were sold as open box... that is one reason I don't like to buy from big stores
I will add to that - Wood breaths ;)

No matter how perfect or even PLEKed the neck was, the wood will expand or contract in YOUR local humidity.

I fret level every new guitar I buy after it acclimates for a few weeks, whether it's a $35 Glarry or a $4000 CS

Wow, that's a lot of new guitars!

Shame on Fender for what looks like poor quality control through.

Shims are acceptable, but they are not the solution to this problem.
Shims are the solution to the saddles being too high or too low to get proper string height.
He's already got the action over 8/64"... twice as high as "textbook"

Another possibility on some bodies, the saddles on my Squier mini, which is a top-loader, were nearly bottomed out, which reduced the break angle to the point that the E and A would "sitar"
Though the action was acceptable, a couple of thicknesses of a business card gave me enough of a neck angle to top out the saddles, and the problems went away.
I can see that potentially being an issue on a top-loader Tele, but not a Strat.

    Yep.
And even if it has been done, like the Plek on Gibsons, there's no guarantee that what was level in TN is going to be level once the neck acclimates to LA, Phoenix, Seattle, Bangor, or Miami.

Yeah I went and watched that after you said, looks fairly easy to do though not sure why the shims are needed I suppose it depends how much up pull you want though before you run out of saddle adjustment . Be interested in one when they release an se model which im sure they will have to eventually do as there is already fake ones starting to surface out of China.

A shameless pile of Pinball parts, drum keys, the heaviest gauge Unistrut, and a pair of Dial Indicators

The Unistrut allows it to be customized for double-neck guitars, ukes, or the longest scale basses
