It's difficult to reflect upon the fortitude of those who gave themselves to the defence of democracy throughout the World. We owe it to so many who gave their own lives, those who risked their own lives to free so many from tyranny and oppression.

I often wonder how much our younger generation truly appreciate how different their lives could have been had our world been ruled at the whim of dictators choosing to exercise their arbitrary and unrestrained acts of power.

It's incumbent upon those who are aware of the horrors of the past, to ensure that we never forget the stupidity and cruelty perpetrated upon innocent people by a few mad men and women.

    Thanks for your posting montemerrick

one of Hitlers big mistakes was to keep German women at home (while this is a huge generalisation it is factual) to ensure that the they could not be members of the **** party. The **** doctrine elevated the role of German men, emphasising combat skills and the brotherhood among male compatriots. Women lived within a regime confining them to roles of motherhood and spouse. The notion of motherhood and procreation for those of child-bearing age promoting the ideal of racially pure and physically strong, thereby increasing and enhancing the "Master Race", and lead to the massacre of those non-aryan people like the Slavs, Gypsies and Jewish who were defined as being racially inferior.

Had the **** party encouraged women to work in the areas of armaments and manufacturing, as did most of the women of the Allies, much of the shortage of supply which hampered the advancement of the German war machine.

I remember that show. It was one of my wife’s favorites. Whatever happened to it?

Not fully including women in the economy, politics and public life in general is a mistake many societies are still making....

Got subtitles now. A good movie, Night Witches in the Sky. I watched it via Firestick for $1.99.

Up until the last minute, we were all thinking season 3 was a go but it eventually ended up being a 2hr tv movie kind of tying up loose ends instead. After shooting that, I moved on to a new cop series called "Played" that was a hopeful to replace Flashpoint (I spent a run of four years there) but it only shot one season. Following that, I returned to Murdoch Mysteries after a five year hiatus and remain there today. Everything in this business is carved in stone...until it isn't!

It's true, but it does concern me that the Irish Government are advocating for quotas for the number of women in government positions.

I'm not sure that this is the best way forward. Do you have a view?

Well, as a (woman) Harvard professor said at one of our conferences, “I don’t like quotas, but I like what quotas do.”
And without something like quotas, at the current pace of change it’ll be another century or two before we have parity.
Think of it this way: for centuries, we had a 100% (first official, then unspoken but still very real) quota for men... maybe setting aside some places for women, who make up 1/2 of the population, isn’t really that outrageous.
And can we really say with a straight face that under our current political systems “the best person wins/is nominated”?

Well we shall agree to disagree. At any rate, the 100% male quota didn’t serve us well...

Spain beat South Africa 3-1, but I think the red card was definitely not deserved...I think RSA outplayed Spain, but you know how football goes...

No. I don't know the answer, so I neither agree nor disagree with you.

Whatever happens we will always question the outcome. I'm hopeful that we can finish this discussion on a positive note and I'm looking forward to seeing more video footage from Paris 2019
