Years from now, when the lawsuits are settled, we will find out that as usual, corrupt PG&E really did this so they could complain to the utility board and raise rates again. Just watch. Wildfires my a$$ anybody else remember ol Governor Gray Davis? Anybody else remember the 'rolling brownouts' ? This is some corporate shareholders looking to buy new yachts.

We had a power cut, only an hour or so, a few months ago. Out came the torches, transistor radio and iPads. I went up to the bedroom. When my wife called up ‘it’s back on’. Decided I’d reset the mains powered clock. Missus comes upstairs a couple of minutes later and breaks into hysterical laughter. ‘What are you doing?’ she asks through her tears, ‘what does it look like, I’m setting the alarm’ I tell her. ‘I know, but why are you holding a torch in your teeth?’, ‘so I can see what I’m doing’. ‘Never mind’ she says, turning on the light as she heads downstairs still giggling...........

Isn't it PG&E? PGE is a separate company that serves the Portland Oregon area (where I live).

The power company will be sending out checks to the people who lost food because their refrigerator was dead.

I went without power for 9 days in the worst of conditions after Hurricane Harvey. It was hell, but I came to terms with it after four or five days.

The food thing is a pretty big deal. You have to keep an ice chest going all the time and cook the food on the grill and stuff. Keeping that ice in the hot weather was tough, but maybe not so bad in northern CA.

Power just came back on. I ran my generator and kept out two refrigerators cold. We also had no phone because we don’t get cell service where we live with out a in house booster that of course requires electricity just like our wireless land line phones do.

I also think it is really posturing for the courts. What are they thinking, cut power everywhere when it is warm and windy? Hello, this is California.....Warm and windy is pretty common here.

    Juice back on here, too.

I think PG&E just panicked over the weather report, did what they thought was the only solution, and then the weather didn’t happen, really. So now they’ve got a few hundred thousand disgruntled customers, 36 hours of lost revenue and crew overtime, and egg on their face.

reading up and getting ready to start piece by piece adding off-grid solar... outdoor pool pumps (low wattage mag drive) are first to get it...

How's the wind situation there? Not thinking of the evil winds behind the power outages but in general. Over here a wind generator is a pretty good complement to solar power, not least during the dark part of the year.

If they (PG&E) really plan on doing this on a regular basis for the next 10 YEARS (as was stated at a recent open meeting), I'm going to be investing in a Tesla Powerwall.

The important take away here is that the "winds" they are complaining have a history going back 5000 years
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Ana_winds#Historical_impact

In NORCAL the weather is nothing new either, the weather has always been like this and has nothing to do with "climate change".
It is entirely because PGE did not maintain their systems, (and of course the forest were not maintained they way they used to) recall the gas explosions blowing up neighborhoods in Cali? PGE, Enron.... PGE, etc.
I honestly think PGE wants out of owning their infrastructure in Cali, it's going to cost too much to retrofit and maintain.
If you like the 3rd world, California is the place to be.

You make good points but I'm not certain "3rd world" is the right terms.

Much of what happens in CA happens later to the rest of the country. Wish us well.
