Funny. I work for a company that does work on microgrids - providing software that allows equipment from different vendors to communicate, allowing real-time monitoring, dispatch, and control. This, along with undergrounding (5-15x the cost) of transmission lines, and we wouldn't have this issue. Technology can solve the problem, but it takes lots of $$. A better way to solve this is population control, stopping new construction in wild areas and allowing fires to burn, reducing the undergrowth. However, there is no political will to do this, so with the climate alternating between wet and dry, we're going to have devastating fires, and blame the power companies.
