I think “Bertha” is a great tune. I really like the Los Lobos version:

"Jerry came out on the stage alone and said that they had played every song they knew."

That's the coolest thing I've ever heard.

Remember a small restaurant on El Camino Real called Country Gourmet? I worked there in the 80s right after high school. Was a manager there for a while. We moved to Mt View from Holland in '65. Ive bounced around the Bay area til I met my wife and we moved to a less hectic place.

    Mom still lives there.

    I sure do!

The area had changed drastically, too many people, 1100 sq ft houses going for 1.4 mil, it’s lost its charm.

Music is subjective. I don't care for a lot of bands that I'd catch hell for even mentioning here. Lol
One of my favorite genres is Hair Metal.
The hate from peers of mine is intoxicating when I mention one of them.
    Rock on.

There was one Dead cut I became very familiar with a Warner Brothers four LP set named Superstars of the 70s. Truckin'. Loved it! Still do.

    https://www.discogs.com/Various-Superstars-Of-The-70s/release/512289

That was my gateway to far better music than the top forty garbage I was listening to at twelve.

My other impressions of the Dead were largely just that - weird Country tinged music when I was well on my way to a deep dive into Prog Rock. Whatever late 70s FM radio airplay they were getting.

I have amassed a fairly extensive collection of live stuff including a lot of Dick's Picks recordings.

I am a deadhead and there are still some songs that I skip. Anything with Donna Jean usually gets skipped. There are, as a few stated, some really great songs and some stinkers! With the sheer number of shows they played and the even more sheer number of songs, there were bound to be some duds. But there are some really great songs too. Wharf Rat, Terrapin Station, Jack Straw and Brokedown Palace are a few of my favorites.

    Everybody's talking at me
    I don't hear a word they're saying
Only the echoes of my mind
    People stopping, staring
    I can't see their faces
Only the shadows of their eyes
I'm going where the sun keeps shining
    Through the pouring rain
Going where the weather suits my clothes
Banking off of the northeast winds
    Sailing on a summer breeze
And skipping over the ocean like a stone
I'm going where the sun keeps shining
    Through the pouring rain
Going where the weather suits my clothes
