Received the famous Nobels ODR-1, and a day early even! This thing has long been a big hit in Nashville and there's a few "boutique" makers that have tried to "improve" the circuit with better components, but to me they fall short and loose what is really cool about it in the first place.

I got the newer version with the bass cut switch on the inside, which isn't easy to reach but that's ok, I'll never try it again most likely. Part of the charm of this thing is the emphasized base. No mid-range hump like on another famous green pedal. Very clear and articulate. Goes from a pretty good clean(ish) boost to a very good medium gain good for hard rock, and does everything in between like blues, rockabilly, and twang. Very very amp like.

I'm an overdrive & distortion junkie and this new version is just as good as the originals in my book.

    Recommended. A++++

Now for a short rant - I bought this thing listed as "mint" but the guy I bought it from shipped it in a bubble envelope. Now the corners of the box are rounded/dented. It may not sound like a big deal, but if for some reason I ever re-sale it I couldn't list it as mint, I'd have to list it as excellent.

It may sound like a small thing, and it is to some extent, but if I pay for mint it should arrive mint!

My advice to sellers - Don't be a lazy freakin' sloth - BOX your pedals for shipping!!!

Sorry to read that the seller was less than stellar.

On the other hand, congrats on the mint Nobels ODR-1. I've not heard of it before, so I'll have to check it out.

Who worries about the box it came when determining condition?

Obviously I do and for the reasons stated. So do many others. Mint MEANS mint. The pictures in the add showed crisp corners on the box and that is not how it arrived.

It affects resale should ever choose to sell in the future.

The seller was fine, only thing lacking was his choice of using a bubble envelope instead of a box to ship it in.

The Nobels has been around for thirty years(!) now and is still a classic warm OD. Definitely check it out, it's a winner.:thumb:

It's not an original run and it's not rare. The condition of the box is not really going to be a driver in the value of it.

Fuss if you need to but they made a lot of them and continue to make them. Just not seeing the significance

    Principle is the significance.

Maybe YOU don't care how an item is shipped to you but I do. Would you ship a pedal in a bubble wrap envelope? Do you think that is the proper way and acceptable? I paid good money and that should be respected rather than finding the cheapest method possible to squeeze an extra dollar.

    Maybe you think that's ok.

    I don't.

It would bother me too. I don't buy used pedals if they don't have the original box and paperwork.

Can't say that I've ever received a pedal in an envelope. I would not be happy if I did.

Unfortunately what has been overshadowed and I don't want forgotten is the Nobels ODR-1 is a fantastic pedal.

Never used the Nobels ODR-1, but I know there is a lot of love out there for it.

I use the Nobels PRE-1 with my Ovation Acoustic Electronic and Fender 12 String with “The Angel” sound hole pickup and it sounds stellar! Highly recommended...

    Congratulations on NPD!

Need to get me some ODR-1... :thumb:

I bought one just out of curiosity and it quickly climbed the ranks to my main overdrive pedal.

RIGHT ON!!! So you can confirm my praise, right? :D

Really does anything, doesn't it? I want another one to pair & switch between. :thumb:

Note : I haven't been this happy with an OD for a long time...and I have lots of OD/distortion pedals. Total junkie.

Absolutely confirmed! It’s got the brightness & airiness needed to cut through a mix but is still warm and pleasant.

Getting a second one ...I like your style! I have been curious about either getting the mini or getting the newer version with the bass roll-off.

I got the newer version with the bass cut switch. I prefer it in the original mode, but results can vary for other users.

I bet it'll sound great stacked on itself, or for switching between different gain levels. Can't believe I ever sold my original, but I was young, money was tight, and rent was due.
