well...let's try this again. This is my 4th phase 90 pedal I have had now (which incidentally now ties the number of Boss SD-1 pedals I have bought over the years...). Mind you, nothing was wrong with any of them..I think just get to points where I want to streamline things and these type of niche pedals are usually the first to go...only to find themselves back in the fold when I feel like playing some EVH riffs. Anyway, I had some amazon bucks to spend and bought another on a whim.
Congrats? (sort of like saying good luck on your fourth marriage to the same woman) And this is why I have bins with a buttload of no longer on the board pedals.. some are crud and some are just occasionally useful.
Great pedal, and I have also had a few of them over the years. The last few years, I've had one on my board. I also have one on my bass board.
Awesome. I just retired mine to a drawer in favor of a Phase 95 that I ran across at a decent price used. Saves me a little space on my board and picked up a few more tones. Phase 90s are excellent. Rock on.
Phaser pedals have always been my favorite and I can't imagine my rig without at least one. I've owned nearly all of them at one point, analog, digital, vintage, boutique... I have two on my guitar board and one on my bass board. I am currently down to six phasers as I have been purging some things that don't get used. Among the one's that are staying are the MXR Phase 90 and the MXR Phase 95. They always work, always sound good and they are dead simple to dial in. Like you, I have bought several copies of the Phase 90 and foolishly sold them, only to buy more. I feel like I have finally learned my lesson and will be keeping the ones I have now. Congrats on the new pedal! (Again.)
OK I’m in the market for a Phaser. I’m strongly considering EITHER the MXR Phase 90 or alternatively the MXR Phase 95. I’ve got one more full size spot on my new pedalboard. The 90 is a proven workhorse. The 95 is more flexible. Opinions are welcome, thanks ( not limited to MXR )
I am perfectly happy with my phase 90. I had an EVH phaser by MXR and it didn’t really do anything super. I keep coming back to the one in @sam_in_cali ‘s board. Super simple to use.
I've only ever had the regular old phase 90 or the evh version (and even then I only used the non-script mode which is essentially the block version from what I hear). I've never used a phase 45 so can't comment on that but the phase 95 seems to have all the options you would want.
HNPD. Now if you do the R28 mod by removing only one leg and install a switch and you basically have the EVH Phase 90. It really smooths out the low frequency oscillator and gives that EVH tone better. I've done it on all of my Phase 90's. It's like having 2 different phasers. Different but close
I want to buy a phaser in honor of one of the iconic and life-changing tones I grew up on. I'm so glad you posted this! My GC account is down to less than $50.00. It's time to buy a phase 90 type pedal. I just don't know which one to get that will cover EVH solos and KC and the Sunshine Band rhythm parts. Any suggestions?
The EVH model is sweet for the striped graphics but you can easily get away with the plain jane phase 90 model for EVH stuff. Here was a demo I did of the EVH model (but using the non-script mode; you can skip to 3:10)
