    New PRS day!

Was on the lookout for a used Gibson LP Standard but couldn’t find any with the top I was looking for at a reasonable (to me) price.

Stumbled across this new PRS S2 Singlecut McCarty 594 (mouthful or what) on the Guitarguitar website in the UK. They post the actual model for sale on the site so you know what you’re getting if you buy online.

Anyway, fell in love, checked the reviews that came back anywhere between 4.5 and 4.8 out of 5... Good enough for me, trigger pulled!

The neck is quite thick compared to what I’m used to but it’s not a negative, just different!

The finish is possibly the best part, the purple on the side looks a beautiful contrast to the blue flamed top IMO. Only problem is she’s an absolute dust magnet lol.

Lowered the bridge down for a lower action but everything other than that personal preference is flawless.

Sounds thick but surprisingly articulate and clear.

    Nice and weighty.

    I’m very happy!

I read somewhere that you can use dryer sheets to make it less of a dust magnet. I have never tried this myself so I don't know if there would be any effects on the finish. Love the curves on the prs since it feels less of a right angle on your arm when playing compared to a les paul. Hope you enjoy :D

You know, now you’ve said that it definitely rings a bell and I’ve done it in the past for something a long time ago... I think it may have been on the little TV I had in my bedroom at my Mum and Dads lol.

Yeah that angle makes a huge comfort difference versus the Gibson! Almost Strat vs Tele difference in terms of playing comfort.

    DAYUM!

how’s the neck carve on this? I’ve had a couple of S2 standard 24’s and really like the neck but not sure if I could go wider/fatter than those...

Pattern Vintage it is, not sure what’s on the S2 Stds but it feels fat and wide to me for sure!

I think the standards and customs are either pattern regular or pattern thin....but the McCarty single cut looks so good I may still have to try it!

    Congrats; that's a nice one!

All of the PRS S2 models have the Pattern neck except these new for 2020 McCarty 594 models. Two of the three S2 McCarty 594 models have the Pattern Vintage neck (your Singlecut and the Doublecut), and the other one, the S2 McCarty 594 Thinline has the Pattern Thin neck.

"Thinline" is a bit of a misnomer; it just means "thinner solid mahogany body", not "semi-hollow" or chambered. PRS seems to be going after the SG market with that model.
