New to me pointy guitar day 20200517_122223.jpg I might have gone over the edge here. Just skimming c/l ads & saw this.
I really wasn't looking to buy a guitar today but...
Figured it was a fair price ($150 w/case) so if doesnt work out I can turn it around for the same.
Neck feels good but no strings on it. Plugged it in & tapped the p/u's ok,truss rod feels like it turns ok. The whole floyd system is new to me so I'll probably have some questions for you.
Right now it's in the basement for a few days just cuz.
After talking with the seller he tells me he has a storage locker of amps & parts he's been hoarding for the last 15 years & can build me a 5e3 just on the chassis no cabinet for around $150. Does this sound possible? Should I start looking at speaker options?

Nice! RR3? I can't see if there is a control plate on the front or if it's a rear route. Either way, it makes me happy to see a convert.
Did I make you jealous yesterday? Lol

You might have planted a thought or 2.
And at least I know you'll help me out if I have any questions about the fr or lock nuts or any other thing I get lost on

If you want, I have an extra intonation tool for the FR thanks to another member here that's become a friend. I can send it outif you need it. Just PM me the info.
Also, your first tip with this body style is you can play it sitting down without adsing any kind of leg hook. Just hold it classical style between your legs and let the crook of the v rest on your right leg.

One of these came with it? It moves the saddle without all the guessing when you loosen the saddle. [IMG][IMG]

You can do the intonation without it but man these do make it much nicer to do.

    Well...you did it to me.
Took it outside, sprayed the crap outta the case & guitar with Lysol then wiped it all down & got it all shiny. Got it strung up. Still trying to get the balance between the springs and strings.
These mf's ain't easy are they.
    I'll get there.

Don't over think it. Finding the balance is just like any other 2 point trem. Once you get the strings clamped in it tune like normal.

Yep, keep the nut unlocked until the strings are stretched. Stretch them faster by pulling the bridge back. Once they stop stretching, lock the nut and use the fine tuners. I like to set the fine tuners in the middle so I can make adjustments both directions if needed. Also remember that when you lock the nut, the strings will pull sharp.

I got the p'ups switched out on mine two days ago...EMG 85 in the bridge 60 in the neck. I know it's actually backwards but I really like the way an 85 sounds in the bridge position with the AlNiCo magnets.
I also ordered a HexHider key for it. I like to keep my lock key on the back of the headstock but it requires drilling a hole in the back. Which I was ready to do but then I found this.

Well it's as good as im gettin it for now
Got it balanced out good. Intonation was a son of a *****. The g string is just bustin my azz. The rest are right on so im gonna live with it for now. Its only off about 4-5 cents.
Next string change Ill be checking out how to lower the nut. I didn't pull it out but there seems to be a little space in there like maybe a shim is buried.
But its playin pretty dam good and I'm havin fun.

They are definitely fun to play. Plus you just look full on Metal with it.
Even the metal detector says so.

    I just o
Got done setting up a 24 volt conversion for my EMG'S for more headroom and easier squealies with two A32 batteries in a clip wired to a 9v clip. I can swap it back out to the 9 volt so no major modifications at all.
