Mods to the body are always a red flag to me. The neck screws look likes the neck has been on and off many times which begs the question why? At least 2 refinishes have been done to based on the colors in the neck pocket. I just do not have enough knowledge to mitigate the risk I would be undergoing for something in that condition.

The body is just a bit of wood at the end of the day, easily repaired.

The neck (although just another bit of wood) is the guitar really, and that does give me some concern.

It looks like the truss rod end including the neck has been butchered trying to get it to turn. Also viewed from the heel, for a slabboard, the meat almost seems to dissipate to nothing..blending into the maple. I'd want some really detailed photo's of that neck from all angles..

Went for 5.3k. I guess that is a reasonable price if you know the guitar plays amazingly well.

Wow! That's surprising with the visible issues (let alone the very real chance of invisible ones!)

Exactly what I've valued it for looking at the parts. I hope it gets restored, but more likely it will be parted out...

Yeah no wonder he wasn't interested in my offer

I think yes unless she's very lucky she's getting parted out shame but will probably be on Eddie Vegas in bits next week

Sadly so. I wish I could find similar guitars locally. I like the restoration part but I want to be sure I end up with a great guitar and buying without playing it is hard. And honestly, this one would have been trivial compared to the last one.

Maybe parts. But I think there are some players out there badly wanting a preCBS strat and this is absolutely all they can afford - warts and all!

This is a bit like cutting up the Mona Lisa and selling it off in pieces. :(

In the case of this sad guitar, probably more akin to cutting this "restored" masterpiece up and selling it off in pieces:

The neck has a $1999 bid already. The case is up to over $600, the bridge has a $999. Close to $4,000 already bid on the parts of this guitar. That's without any bids on the pickups ($2999 start) or body. Like it or hate it, it's someone's bread and butter.

Close to real? (as per message title). I think it's been established as real now. Also as real messed up!

Okay - here's a breakdown of how the "breakdown" sold:

    Neck: $2475
    Body: $1499
    Pots/Wiring: $599
    Bridge Assembly: $1275
    Pickguard Shield: $110
    Jackplate: $49.99
    Strap buttons: $33.55
    Neckplate: $231.50
    Pickups: unsold
    Tuners: unsold

Total for parts sold: $6273.04. Less Ebay fees around $5500 achieved so far?

Purchased for $5300 + $110 shipping. So just over break even at this point. What the pickups and tuners sell for will determine the profit achieved.
