    Some updates.....Apparently the "ss" and mysterious neck pocket symbols may indicate that this body was refinished at the Fender factory, a service they offered in the '60s. The unreadable images were burned into the body, under the pick guard, so that the correct parts would be returned to the proper owner. Hadn't heard that one before. I'm wondering if they changed the decal on the neck at the same time. It's pretty shiny for an old finish.
