I grew up with them. I love them.

This is a great version of a song that reminds me of my Grandad and I love The Lower Lights.

What are some hymns you all like?

remember the Iris DeMent cover? i like that one a lot.

I was raised in a hardcore Lutheran church. Catholicism without the Pope. So for me, it’s those huge Bach harmonizations of Luther’s lyrics. “A Mighty Fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing.”
Me too.

My old man was an organist, choir director and school teacher in a strict Lutheran circuit. An unpleasant man he was.

Ergo I’ve got little time and less patience for hymns.

But “Abide with Me” will always have a place in my heart. It takes me right to my mom’s death bed.

Edit: I see “Amazing Grace” above. I guess I never thought of that as a hymn because of its historical roots and mass appeal. But that’s a beautiful song, too. On bagpipes it’s raw emotion.
