Came in from working out in the heat and found this:

As any good cat owner would, I gently touched his ear. Then again. Then poked him in the soft side belly.

"OMG, he's pretty old I think he's dead!!" I think to myself and prod him some more, he finally half unrolls and gives me the "what?" Expression.

    Damned cat.

You're not alone. Sunny (he's 16 or thereabouts) sleeps like the dead.

Your cat was totally dead. Now he's a zombie cat. Next thing he'll be coming at you mumbling "brainnnnssss"

My dog is close to 14 years old.
I'm constantly bothering him while he's sleeping.
He gives me that "wth" look when i pet him and wake him up.
    Just checking on ya buddy.....
    He's nonplussed.

    Farewell, Whiskers.

I have a spare cat too, but Mr. Joe the Man Cat is about as good a non-human buddy as I have ever had. He outranks a whole bunch of dogs and cats and lizards and a bird. I will be torn up, when Mr. Joe passes.

    Funny thread, sort of.

We have a 16 yr old dog that at least once or twice a week I’m sure she is dead. Then after enough prodding she slowly works her way to an upright position. Sometimes I think she was about to join my other previous dogs but my poking her brought her back.

My dog is pure jubilation anytime I pass out of his sight and then return. Matters not if it's a minute or a millennium.

I have to flick the wife's ear once in awhile just to see if she is breathing.

They do that, just ‘cos they can. It’s their ‘remember who’s boss here’ routine. Scary when it happens though. Not a bad life being a cat in a decent home.

Did you see the catnip on the other shelf? Rampant feline drug use around here.
