Old school 80's R&B. Pure class n' talent if you ask me.

Nothing to be guilty about in this thread so far. Some great voices but I will admit that after listening with 2017 ears I'm left feeling a little cold by the 80's instrumentation that was often used. Some of those synth pads are very dated sounding.

    I'm there.

There's artful-synth, tactful synth, full-on-synth (which is called for at times), and then dated-synth.

I liken this fine line between timeless art form and overkill, to the dynamics inherent in a lead guitarist complimenting a band--versus dominating a band. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, like Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and a host of others whose songs are basically one long lead solo at times.

One of the finest examples I've found, of the complimentary lead guitarist who subtly enriches a song, and cranks-out a fine lead for when it counts the most, is this guy, in this song:

*a quality set of speakers or headset is needed to fully appreciate the tone of his playing
