Having to ask permission sucks. I just do it. If she notices, she notices, if she doesn't, she doesn't. Either way it makes no difference. We each make our own money and buy whatever we want to, within reason of course.

This time, I am actually selling a bunch of stuff to offset the cost a little bit. Nothing I'll miss.
I’m active on another guitar/bass forum where we regularly refer to our wives as “senior management”.
I have the opposite problem, my better half encourages me to get new guitars....lol

In my house, I am the CEO. If you ask my wife she will confirm that. The issue with being CEO is that the CFO (aka she) gets to tell me how little I have to spend on important stuff like much needed guitars and pedals that are required for my tone addictio...er I mean my little hobby.

its all great in the beginning....then.....
I had all of my gear (16 guitars, 6 amps) before I was married but when I got my Gibson CS336 a couple of years ago, I ran it by Mrs. A first.
She wound up with a pair of surprise diamond earrings for our anniversary a few months later.
my wife resents the guitars I already have, including the two from loooong before we ever met.
Mine says if I buy any more gear we’re gonna need a bigger house. So I sent her some house ideas from our realtor... she wasn’t amused
