Many. I have yet to experience any of what I'd call inconsistent or discriminatory moderation here. I can't say the same for several other forums. My experience here has been much better than elsewhere.

IME Strat-Talk is actually one of the best self-policed forums I've posted on.

This isn't 3rd grade. We're adults, we know the basic rules, and pretty much live within the borders. Members get along well without a lot of the sniping I see elsewhere and that may be due to maturity and an older average age.

I love to joke around as much or more than the next guy and it seems to me that as long as we don't get grossly offensive and color within the lines we can do as we like. There aren't a lot of "runs with scissors" types here either.

But then every forum needs a few or it gets boring.

An unmoderated forum where anything goes often ends up in a quick death not only for the one forum but the entire site.

And NFL team forum I helped start up in the early '00s had the not so brilliant idea of opening an unmoderated forum for politics, religion, and any other off topic subject you could imagine.

I argued against it for the same reasons as you stated. Once the world of trolls and aholes found out we had an unmoderated forum they arrived in mass and tore the place up.

Bad blood and disputes in the unmoderated forum spilled over into the main football forums and moderation was useless. It was like herding cats or fighting a Hydra. Ban one bad boy and two more appear.

I left over it and within less than two years a 12 year old forum cratered.

That’s why I moved here. Moderated moderation.
Once again, thanks to The Mods

The old Dean forum imploded for much the same reason. Things got REALLY ugly there for a while around the time Dime was shot, Dean Z left the company (yet again) etc. The whole place just sent to crap.

    Careful -- there's a 3-month ban for describing it
Standup comic Erin Jackson has a bit about how her mom thought BTW meant "Booker T. Washington."

Still only on a yellow card. Just found what I thought was the offending post still there, I’ve now, genuinely, what ‘profanity’ I posted. Weird

That may be it! My, now infamous, ‘WTF’ thread is still up. I have no idea what post contained the apparent ‘profanity’. I will never type a profanity, I even use stars in mild words like a**e. Never mind, I spend more time here anyway and will now spend even less there. Shame that the mods. seem to be inconsistent and unable to enter into conversation to explain their thinking. I’ve fallen foul here a couple or three times, but each time I’ve had a PM explaining. Whether or not I agreed, I was given the opportunity to reply and, in one case, apologize before being struck off.

When informed of my yellow card I think I advised the mod of my disagreement as well as my assessment of whether he should have intercourse with himself and that turned it to a red.

Love it! Not sure why ‘intercourse’ upset him, if you’d said what you really thought....................

Not gonna lie. Though I recently rediscovered my love of Strats I consider myself a Tele guy & I really like that site. I find more threads/info geared towards building/modding & I am a modder who (very) occasionally builds. However, it seems the powers that be don't like my brand of humour & Ive had a few things deleted while I struggle to figure out why.

If it weren't for so many awesome posters on the site I just wouldn't bother with it.

I'm relatively new on this site & I'm sure I'll find similar characters here.
