Getting ready to buy my first Telecaster. Have plenty of Strats, a SG and a R7 Les Paul but now want a Tele and have decided on a Standard. I get along with rosewood of maple necks. I love this finish but cant decide if it looks better with RW or Maple neck. I am slightly preferring the maple neck. Your opinions would be great.

I always go maple. No reason other than I love maple.

The correct answer is obviously both.

Seriously, I'd have a heck of a time choosing there. That is a gorgeous finish on those Teles. I'm more of a maple guy, but am coming around on rosewood boards.

Edit: After looking again, the maple really does make that finish pop a bit more than the rosewood does.

I probably will never buy another guitar with a Maple Fretboard again so take this with a grain of salt. The Rosewood really compliments the Red finish nicely in that 2nd picture. The red with the black guard and Rosewood really look like they were made for each other.

lovehifi, they both look really good. That's a classy looking tele either way. W / the rosewood it kinda has a Les Paul Jr. vibe. Either way you go with this you win, and that don't happen too often-

Maple for me, but that's just because it will differentiate it from the Gibbys.

I think that the rosewood looks the best, but having a Jeff Beck and a Clapton at the same time I was happier withe the Clapton. Maybe it was the maple neck or pick-ups I don't know. However, i bought a 50's Road worn Tele maple neck and it confirmed I will never play anything but maple on an electric. Now on acoustic ebony is the ticket.

When I was ready to buy an American Standard Tele I also chose the transparent Crimson Red ash body, and had the same dilemma choosing the fingerboard! I eventually settled on rosewood and LOVE the guitar, but honestly, I probably would have been just as happy with maple. I just liked the look of the rosewood with the red finish better. Mine is just a great playing, sounding and looking guitar and is very light, which I really like.

Play other Tele models before you buy this "American Standard".

In some respects this isn't a "100%" Telecaster but a modern transitional model meant to appeal to players of other guitar designs. If you really want to commit to a Telecaster, find one with four bridge mount screws above six widely spaced through holes. If you do this, then you can use almost any bridge type you can think of. IMO when you buy the American Standard ( or an American Deluxe or American Series ) you put yourself on one side of the tracks with no way to cross, unless you buy a second Tele.

I like both as well but that guitar looks killer with the rosewood.

I agree with the "pop" assessment. Teles are just maple fingerboad kinda guitars.
