while the lock washer does secure it. there's the issue that you cannot have the jacks entry flush with the nut... Use a jamb nut and you can regulate that... the lock washer cannot be used with a jamb nut because there's not enough thread showing on the top side to allow the securing nut to grab the threads...

And anyone will have a very difficult time securing the ½ inch nuts with that ⅜ ths socket... :p

all assuming using the standard Switchcraft ¼" Jack..

Agree 100%. If you don’t have a socket set then spend $20 and buy a small Craftsman set. Just make sure it has the size you need for your guitar (I think 1/2” is best but 13mm can also work). I’m pretty sure you’ll get enough other use out of a socket set to justify the investment.

This also works great if you need a convenient battery compartment for any active mods. I've done this to install an Alembic Blaster in a Strat.

get the set with the long sockets, for when you install tuners.

If you do splash out on a socket set to tighten the jack socket nut, it’s not a one trick pony. When the bathroom mono block tap comes loose you’ll be able to tighten that up too. In my case it was the bathroom job that came up first.

Hi Mikael, it doesn't matter if use the second nut as a "Jamb Nut" or a "locknut" the result is the same. There is no need to detach a load of parts just remove the two screws and release the jack plate. It's a 10 minute job. Good luck. :thumb:

We're at the bottom of page two on tightening a nut.
