Takes a horticulturist to make a garden grow. That was George Martin. They learned from him. Don't know how 'swift' the Beatles studio band output would have been without him. That's why HE got the CBE. The Stones were live stage entertainers you watched as well as listened to. Anyway, the real musician in The Beatles was George Harrison.

The idea that Paul wasn’t just as much of a real musician as George is just silly. And the idea that the CBE means anything is also silly.

John’s given interviews where he’s said that it’s a shame that most of the world didn’t get to see us playing in the clubs in Hamburg, that’s when we’re we’re at our best, really rocking and rolling.

I saw Paul's comment and Jagger's response as good natured ribbing between old rivals.

I never for one second, and this can be verified, that Paul was the one that broke up the band. John was indifferent towards the guys for having issues with Yoko hanging around. She was never in the band but she did show up in the studio sessions one too many
times for Paul tolerate. Plus the fact that he was adamant about having the band tour again , and the others would have none of it,
    especially George.

Comparing the Stones and Beatles AT that time was somewhat like comparing the Luvin Spoonful to Iron Butterfly. Stones had that blues edge and the one singer 'personality' sound that stood out in a different way.

Beatles were one of the pioneers in rock/pop twin guitar harmonies and trio vocals. Those characteristics made them very special.

I'm going to expand my thoughts here.

    1. Both the former Beatles and the Stones figured out a long time ago that the rivalry between them benefits both, so they play it up.

    2. The British sense of humor is often lost on yanks.
