I ordered a new guitar from Guitar Center's website today. I had been playing one at my local GC and was close to buying it when they shut down due to the virus. I went on their website today to ask about store closings and how they affected purchases, as I like to have guitars I order from them delivered to my local store. It's free, and if there is anything wrong I just walk away; they refund the money and take care of the return. The salesperson answered my questions, then went straight into the "what would it take to get you to place your order now?" routine. She basically made me an offer I couldn't refuse: 15 percent off and free shipping, plus she put a $50 gift card on top and let me use it on this purchase. I ended up saving 400 bucks on a guitar I was more or less prepared to pay full price for a month ago. (This model just debuted at Winter NAMM and isn't being discounted anywhere yet.) The moral of the story - besides the fact that I have a pending NGD and am super psyched - is that GC is still alive and kicking online, and its salespeople are authorized to make very good deals if you ask. Those federal refund checks are supposedly coming, and my birthday is next month. Why TF not?
