Hey everyone - I wanted to poll the group as to what their favorite nighttime-jamming setup(s) consist of. I saw some older threads and just wanted to get the group’s updates on any of the latest gear, that you all would recommend, etc. My main amp is a Marshall DSL40 so that’s out at high volumes after hours ;) - anyone have luck with the irigs or similar gadgets? I have an older irig but when I use it with the Tonebridge app, it frequently cuts out, especially woth higher distortion (which could also be a headphone problem, etc.)? Other headphone set ups and iPhone/iPads would be ideal as I work crazy hours and only get to play when my ladies are asleep. What about those Amplug things? I think Vox has a few? I appreciate everyone’s input on advance!!

I go into the basement and play through my amp. I realize this isn't an option for everybody.

If I need to use headphones, I plug into either my Boss GT-100 or Zoom G5.

    Absolutely this!
I got one for Christmas. The different gain levels, and built in effects are pretty cool.
The tone is ridiculously good for a $45 gadget. I’m highly impressed.

Yamaha THR10C and Fender Mini '57 Twin. If I need to be really quiet, with headphones.

I just turn it down till I can barely hear it. Our house transmits sound very easily.

    Unplugged. Easiest and cheapest solution.

Ralph Macchio used a pig nose. That thing had outstanding sound, but probably too loud...

Unplugged or through my DAW with headphones, pretty much all the time, not just at night.

Boss Katana Air with Bluetooth headphones. Totally wireless. I can sit on my living room couch and jam, with the amp one floor above in the bedroom where my wife is asleep. Pretty cool.

I like to plug into my audio interface, fire up GarageBand, pick an amp model and let it rip! I can hear everything perfectly through the headphones, so no one else has to hear anything, I can dial in any kind of sound or effect I want without having to fiddle with amps or pedals, and I can hit a button and start recording if I want to. It's also fun to turn on the auto drummer and jam along (much prefer that to a metronome).

HX stomp. You can probably get a used one for $500 or less - and it has enough blocks (6) to get you an amp and cab, delay, distortion, modulation and two more effects!

    The waza air headphones?
Never tried them, but they are popular.
Me personally, i can't get on with headphones for very long.
I just don't like them on my head.

I use a micro cube, set the volume knob pretty low, and if I am playing to something, it plays thru my phone.
Not sophisticated at all, but it's been working for me for years

I probably spend most of my plugged-in time through a Focusrite into Garageband, with headphones plugged into the Focusrite. I have an Audioengine bluetooth speaker that I sometimes use as a monitor plugged directly into the Focusrite for pretty decent sound at vanishingly low volume.

I have a Mooer headphone amp, buffer, cab sim pedal on my pedalboard; if I want to play with pedals but no amp.

I also play acoustic, but ironically, the headphone solutions are quieter than acoustic guitar.

I have the WAZA Air it is really nice. Sounds way better than direct or any of my amp headphone jacks. It can fool you. I am super happy with it. The only thing that comes close, that I own, are the Fortin plugins which sound better than the amp headphone outs but not quite as good as the WAZA. Not to say the WAZA is perfect but if you spend a little time with the editor you can easily dial in some jamming sounds clean to ultrametaldistorto. It sounds better than my Katana not sure why but I prefer it over the plugged in Katana. It also pairs well with my stomp boxes. Gets a little sweaty sometimes though and I could see that being a problem this summer, but that is a headphone problem not a WAZA air problem.
