One man's perversion is another's recreation, it's all relative (insert Tennessee joke here).

200 posts over a made up word. All in an effort to understand, what strikes me as a dubious practice, on the part of one manufacturer at least, intended to increase the selling price.

(keeping in mind that what one does with their own sh¡t is their own business and none of mine)

In the early 80's I was looking for a leather bomber jacket. A real one. Made by Schott. I called around. The following is one of my conversations...

    Moi:
Do you happen to carry leather bomber jackets made by Schott Leathers?

    Them:
    Yes, we have distressed leather...!

    Moi:
I think you misunderstand; I am looking for a specific manufacturer's product. Their company name is Schott. S.C.H.O.T.T. Do you carry any of their products?

    Them:
Our distressed leather is very authentic looking, I'm sure you'll be very pleased!

    Moi:
    Thanks for your time.

    Them:
I'm certain that we can offer.....

    Moi:
    click.

Now we have a word, made up to lend an air of respectability to someone faking the aged appearance of an instrument.

I once watched a video of fender's Custom Shop "Master Builder" 'relic-ing' a guitar. The clown merely scrapes the finish entirely off parts of a guitar using a steel straight eddge. Calls it a skill. Seemed to be very impressed with himself.

Makes one want to take up the oboe.

In my defense...only one of my posts was on topic.

I bet a million bucks that the first reliced guitars fell out of the back of a UPS truck on accident.
Oh crap! What do we do with these pieces of crap?!!

Do people who prefer reliced guitars drive cars that are all scratched and bashed up?
If so, did they pay more for their beat up cars than a new one costs?

These are the deep questions I contemplate at midnight after unloading all the stuff I bought at Costco...

    fast

During her week-long fast, she took a fast train to where the others were fasting; she had to get there fast before her strength gave out.

(I suppose one could argue that the verb/noun and adjective/adverbe aren't exactly the same word... but i think the example you are thinking of is sort of the same...)

All words are made up. Unless you believe that each & every word was created by divine intervention...

I prefer the example I was thinking of. Or perhaps I should phrase that more proper, like.

I prefer the example of which I was thinking.
