Hi,
I bought myself a chinese Std Strat a couple of months ago and found different statements about the specs.

Serialnumber begins with CY, followed by nine numbers. I guess the guitar is from 2012 as the first two numbers are 12xxxxxxx.
I've learned, it's from the Yako plant but what about the body- and fretboard wood? Agathis or Alder? Indian Laurel or Rosewood?

Thank you all in advance and have a nice weekend!

Officially they're supposed to be alder, however inconsistency is a consistent hallmark of Squier so it could be alder or agathis. The only ones I'd 100% say yes are always alder are 2003's, the first year of this "limited" color finish. I've got 5 of them, two 03's, an 05, an 06 and a 12 and the grain patterns vary wildly enough that I feel pretty comfortable with my opinions on materials.

However, Squier didn't start with Indian Laurel on fretboards till 2017, confirmed by a user over at Squier-Talk via Fender.

I love that you put that up there, cause it really illustrates how Squier changes things up. You have this, but if you look at the 03 Squier catalog you see it listed as alder. Consistently inconsistent.

Thanks!
I think I'll go for a black 3-ply pickguard. Any recommendations for one which fits perfectly?

Did someone already change the pickups?
