Id say im intermediate. I definatly consider myself a musician. But it doesnt go farther then the garage and some local bars. Music has always been a major player in my life, playing or listening...

Probably intermediate..... but I do have flashes of brilliance that put me up one category!
And then I blow it and it takes me right back down. LOL.

Even though I have a degree in music... I'd say I'm advanced...simply because I don't make a living playing. My friends that are Professionals blow circles around me....simply because they are in "peak" condition at all times.

I had an experienced guitarist refer to me as an advanced beginner or intermediate player about six months back so I'll go with beginner/intermediate. It actually made my day to be described that way.

I still feel like an absolute novice when someone asks me to play something for them.

I'd vote, but you didn't put "hack" as one of the choises. I'm all over the place. I can still pull off some technical stuff from back when I practiced all the time. On the other hand, sometimes can't pull off even the simplest of things.

You can be professional and suck. Professional just means you get paid to play.

I said beginner/intermediate; I've been playing way too long but inconsistently. Making more progress in last few months than all but the first 6 months I picked up the instrument though.

I'm with you patl. I classify myself as a beginner/intermediate. I don't know how to read music, play by ear and read tab. I've been playing for 25 yrs. but very inconsistent. Life gets in the way that a person can't pick up his axe when he wants to. Although I love to play and wish I had the time to do it.

Voted intermediate as I've never continuously played throughout the years and have stopped and started back up a few times but I'm playing now more than ever and am very determined to to get better.

i would say i am a advanced bass player, but no one cares about that lol

So true , I get paid for playing so I guess I am a professional, but I really feel like a student after 40 years of playing.
