Opinion on a set basix drum kit "used" ?

"Drums are in good condition, nothing needed to get started. Comes with a stool and extra symbols. My son got them when he was 17, for intermediate use. The drums are not set up but we would be willing to set them up up you wanted to see them. I could also send you better pictures if you want." His description to me.

Looking for my son to get started.

    Thoughts ?

I paid $550 for a set of new Tama's a year ago. They came with every thing needed, even decent meinle cymbals. Udualy the starter sets have trash cymbals and you end up dropping another couple hundred just for decent basic ones.

Need a lot more info than that. Make sure all the stands are included and the kick pedal.

    Is Basix a brand?

I got a nice ash 5 piece Gretsch kit for 350, but then had to buy cymbals and some stands for another couple hundred bucks.

Yes I guess it is a brand out of Germany and China combined.

That price is not that great when compared to what you can get from the big music retailers for decent low end kits.

    Here are the rules:

Hardware needs to be sturdy. The best drums in the world will be impossible to use if the hardware is flimsy

The cymbals that come with most beginner kits are indeed pretty terrible. You can use them a while but the needed upgrades can end up costing more than the kit.

Even relatively inexpensive shells can be made to sound good with good heads, tuning and some effort. In fact, they can sound VERY good.

The things are loud. Try as you might to get the player to hold it down, it's going to get loud sometimes.

Lastly: They take up more room than you think.
