Kind of grim here. Pair of killed coyotes facing each other placed lying in an irrigation channel.
Their blood still on the road. Powerful medicine, but disturbing to come upon.
Later, a dead Cooper's hawk on the walking road. On a brighter note, we saw a group of Rio
Grande turkeys for the first time in 10 years of walking out back. Beaver... none of these likes
to have their pics taken. Oh, the Sandhill cranes have all flown , so.. I got nuthin'

Here's a mama raven and her (~one week old) chick. This is from the Carrizo Plain National Monument (Central coast California). There are at least 3 chicks in this nest.

This is a Clark's Grebe with a hitchhiking baby/juvie chick. At a local lake about 10 miles east of Pismo along the Central Ca coast.

This is a great horned adult and one of its three chicks. Got these pics down in a grove near the Pismo state beach campground.

    Not really a wildlife picture...but.
These warnings are posted at the main entrance of my mom's care home.
Funny thing, the doors are all automatic open, so I guess a hungry bear or cougar could wander in anytime.

Lots of babies around this year...they eat all our flowers (my wife caught these dudes on camera yesterday) but that's okay by me:)

I helped a neighbor retrieve a juvie Barn Owlet that had 'fallen' out of a nesting box. It fell onto a big hay bale and scurried under some pallets in their barn. I stuck my hand under the pallet and it grabbed my glove with its sharp talons. I was a bit surprised that it held on as I retrieved my hand from under the pallet. I carefully folded its wings and then very carefully climbed an 18' extension ladder to put it back in the box. There are 4 chicks in the box and when I put the wayward chick in the box there was a hissing fit for about 20 seconds. Looks like these owlets will be flying very soon. We have a LOT of owls in this semi-rural area because there are so many ground critters feeding on the horse/livestock feed.
