This is a Great Blue Heron eating an endangered (at that time) Lake Erie Watersnake.
And the Fox squirrel here have a mutation that makes their usually lighter undersides black or their tails white.
Here’s a white one.
And a this tan spotted beetle I saw on the front window screen. Never seen it before so I googled it (reverse image search) and found out it’s a Tan Spooted Beetle. What a unique name...
And Lake Erie looks to be the extent of its northern range.
This is a juvie Coopers Hawk. Probably just barely 3 months old. Near Morro Bay Ca.
My yard one morning I left for work.

It's so cool when the hens bring their brood up for us (Charley and Sophia, the cats) to admire.
It's funny to watch turkeys "cow" a predator....
Saw them collectively face down a bobcat...
Stand up ovation....

This guy came over for a visit today.
This is a Vermillian Flycather which is quite rare for Central Ca coast area. It's been hanging around Laguna Lake (SLO) for a couple months now. When it first showed up all of the local birders were chasing it around the lake. It's fairly common in South Tx, NM, Az, and throughout Mex.
