If you fancy a bit more, there's this to play with...

And in keeping with this workshop, with no piano, just bass and drums.

Blimie guv, I'm still trying to get to grips with the first one! I feel that deserves to be a thread all of its own. :thumb:

I had to do it again. The track is there, some things have been moved around:

This is my WWEED track. "What would Elliot Easton do?" ;)

Oddly enough, elements of that remind me of a 1960s UK TV commercial that has been going round my head while I practice. "Almost everything you do/ It goes a little better when you chew/ Rigley's Spearmint Gum!"

I just recorded a rhythm guitar take, and the timing is so off, I'm disgusted with myself! Try again tomorrow...

dang... that would've fit right in on the soundtrack for After Hours or Desperately Seeking Susan or Repo Man. or even a snippet from Adrian Belew getting the spotlight in a Talking Heads show... on fire!

It's the same chord progression, but a different feel, with an eight bar bridge that moves to minor. :) I tried not to tie the original backer down to any style, especially jazzy, I didn't want to put anyone off...

The older I get, the more I like the corny stuff, which manages to be innocent and honest at the same time, a rare feat in our fallen world. Just yesterday I improvised for a solid half hour on the theme from Titanic. I've been known to noodle all over "Irene Goodnight" or "I Fall to Pieces." (I get the raised eyebrows from the wife when I fall into these moods, but that's better than the baleful look I get when I start with the Chickin Pickin' stuff. The poor woman.)

Think of all the wonderful versions of "Over the Rainbow" over the years. Then there's Coltrane's take on "My Favorite Things." Stand up for corn, I say. Cast off the chains of "good taste."

I want to take time and listen to everything one more time....and I did come up with a few ideas.
Corn tastes good, that's why it's popular.

Like you, I often play "corny" music for fun and occasional profit.

I've been playing my chord part on acoustic guitar, because Mr Flat Top don't lie. Like an actor who hasn't learned his part properly, I'll be fine for a bit then dry up just long enough for the timing to go to pot. Sometimes, it's because I'm trying too hard. Other times, it's because I've relaxed into it and started to embellish the part. o_O
