That's the point of the thread. And I/IV/V are a few bricks in the foundation. Important bricks being the key center, the sub-dominant, and the dominant, but not the foundation IMO. When you hear the exact same lick in every song...it's not melody. It's being Rich Little instead of being Lenny Bruce. I cringe when I hear Stevie Ray do it. Clapner I kind of forgive, because when I heard Strange Brew and Lawdy Mama side by side...it made me look up Albert King. There are two things that you can copyright in music. Lyrics and melody. You can't copyright a solo. But the songs melody...you can. So the pick your fave AK solo and most of those elements are in most of his songs. They're licks...not true melodic content. It adds to the conversation. But yeah you are.
