To be honest, I've played a Deluxe once and it was too loud for me. I have Princeton and it's absolutely gorgeous - the sound is the best I've ever had from an Amp and it takes pedals so well too. Would definitely recommend you try out both at the volume you are most likely to be playing at before making a choice.

Man, is it possible with your Fender hookup that maybe you could try both at home a bit - borrow one from the store, or somethin?

I'd get a Princeton but you should get a Deluxe if you're going to take it downtown .

I suppose it depends on the intended application. The Princeton is my favorite amp of all time, but the DR is the Swiss army knife of anps; it can work for just about any application.

I guess in a vacuum, the DR wins by a nose.

I played my buddies HW Princeton today. It was truly incredibly beautiful. He has it dialed in and it was heavenly with my 62’ CS Strat I call Betty. No OD tones just dreamy floating on a cloud tone. That reverb and tremolo …. that incredible guitar. Tone you can swim in!!!

I been gigging a Super Sonic 60 the last few years. I have a few other gig rigs. I just got the cher petite Boogie Mark 5 25 if I need a little flame thrower. A endorsement deal with Fender has fell in my lap… it has nothing to do with talent believe me…. but I may as well use it.. right?

Deluxe. Princetons are for practice and recording. Deluxe is for everything.

Are you looking at tweed or BF circuits?

I used to gig (some) in a blues band with a silver face Princeton like 25 yrs ago in small rooms. I'd crank that little thing wide open and it sounded beautiful - and sometimes would hook it up to a 12" cab and that was Xtra special.

I love a DR and the working man's 5E3 as much as the next slinger, but those Princeton amps can be fun.

    You should get both! :sneaky:

I owned both a Princeton and a Deluxe for about a week each, back to back. The difference in wattage really isn’t the point… it’s that the Deluxe sounds better, even at a clean whisper.

Still Deluxe all the way. It’s my favorite of the BF amps. Princeton Reverbs are nice, but a DR is just great.

I actually really love a Deluxe Reverb at lower volumes.

There is nothing better than a Deluxe. Many amps are good, but the deluxe is heaven....

A new (or used) ‘64 Custom HW Deluxe or buy a vintage SF Deluxe and save some cash.

I bought a Princeton Custom Hand Wired Reverb last year. It has the rattle... I sort of wish I'd bought a Deluxe. The 10 inch Jensen sounds boxy to me...

    But it's a Princeton...

(Let me add that when everything is lined up the Princeton sounds incredible! I think my main problem is trying a dozen pedals through it of late, which don't do a thing for me. It sounds gorgeous with just the reverb/trem floor switch and a mild boost, my broken Echoplex Preamp (Dunlop). Broke the knob off, a first....)
