Punk songs are too damned short.

:D It's no wonder they do 30 minute sets for the local original punk bands. At the temps and in the punk genre, the songs are too short. Looking at what we have that we will play in a few weeks actual music time is only about 16 1/2 minutes AND YOU WILL BE SWEATING TOWARD THE END.

Guess I will have to bull**** a bit. Not that I ever bull****.

How about filling in the rest of the time with a 13 1/2 minute instrumental from your forthcoming punk symphony? :D

This run time includes a movement from the Punk Symphony.

TBH, I doubt if I could last the 16.5 mins. There was a punk Challenge on here a few years ago. I took the tempo up to make it more like British punk and just the three minutes damn near killed me.

Boyo loves to go super fast. We have a song we are going to play to close that lets him just go like a bat out of hell for 1 minute.

Edit: And yes, it takes some stamina in general to play the stuff and I will be yelling unintelligibly the whole time and sometimes sounding like Jon Anderson being assaulted.

Who can listen to that godawful noise for longer than 2 minutes at a time?

Unless it's the Ramones, of course

I saw a punk band many, many years ago.

They just repeated their set a few times has they didn't have many songs, that's the solution.

We have a small window of time in which to play and I would bet the promoter and the other bands would be happy if the sets are a tad short.

We also have a couple of sections/outros that if people are in the pit, we can extend.

I played for 10 years in a band that could qualify as punk: our first EP had 4 songs and it was under 4 minutes. Sets were usually around 20 even if they gave us more room.

I can tell you: nothing beats the thrill of loud and fast. You don't get that anywhere else, and the feeling of community at punk / hardcore shows is like no other.

I would definitely go to that

My earlier comment was a bit tongue in cheek, btw ;-)

I was not a young punk. Didn't really get it. As a late bloomer, I agree with you. We open with a song that is loud, fast, based on a guitar riff and 1:45 long.

The song that we may take liberties on the rideout is similar to this. Just three chords but oddly hypnotic when played for a long time. It's a progression that does not naturally have an end, it just wants to be like a loop. :D

That's what the grunge song and the song that ended up like The Who are for. :D

Pre-Punk, I always thought Mississippi Queen was too short. I'd get it going on the jukebox and barely have time to get back to my table and pick up my beer and it was over.
