Reelin' in the Years by Steely Dan, great song and an awesome solo, some say, and that includes Jimmy Page, it's the best guitar solo ever.

Great video if you like this song, includes the guy who played the solo on the recording, with the strat he used on the recording.

Thanks for posting that. That guy is really long winded, but it’s worth it to listen to Elliot and how those guitar parts (and the sounds) came about. I actually spent a few weeks obsessing over those guitar parts a few months ago. I couldn't stop listening to it. Just glorious tones. Humbucker in the neck! Hahaha

It's a long Solo and played at moderate-high Tempo. What I can't get my head around is that he played that for the first time in the recording studio, the first run-through if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah,he is obviously a crazy talented guitar player. I think Fagen sacked everybody (including Elliot) a few years on didn’t he? You’d get locked up for writing Hey Nineteen these days!

I often don’t mind a bit of detailed analysis Thom, but that guy goes to a whole new level. I’m sure he’s a widely respected professional with lots of people who hang out for his reviews, but I think they might all take No Doz.

Cut to the solo, cut out as soon as it had been played.

I listen to and play mostly jazz, so Steely Dan are my favorite rock (?) band. I enjoy rootsy stuff too, but to me SD are really well ahead on any other rock group musically. The featured guitarists are certainly the best in the history of any rock group.

i love Steely Dan. I love good stories about Rock history .

But that guy could be telling me what to do to avoid currently inbound nuclear weapons and after a minute I would decided it just wasn't worth the effort I might as well just take the hit.

Interesting stuff, I like hearing how the hired guitarists tell their story.

The guitar tone on this song was always excellent IMO, I don’t think it’s the greatest solo ever played by any stretch of the imagination. That said I’ve been butchering it for years…lol.

I actually like Huart's approach and I've learned a ton about mixing etc from his channel, but that's beside the point here.

I don't know how anyone could not like that song, especially guitarists. Learned that one back in the day and by the end of the video I'd already hooked things up to kick the rust off the forgotten licks. It just pumps happy juice into your veins.
